Frequently Asked Questions. Frequently asked questions on electrical installations compliance with IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition.

Installation and circuit design. This service would provide design calculations on maximum demand and diversity, selectivity, cable selection, correction factors to be applied, cable sizing for loading, shock protection and thermal constraints.
- Fire alarm and emergency lighting requirements for buildings. This service would include location and type of detectors, positions of emergency luminaires together with advice on regular maintenance and testing requirements to meet Statutory requirements.
- PAT Testing. Advice can be provided on such matters as type and class of equipment, frequency of testing and documentation required to be issued to the client.
- Pre-assessment visits to sites to confirm, or otherwise, that the installation meets the requirements of BS 7671:2018 The IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition. Inspection on demand and visits to ensure compliance before the NICEIC/ELECSA/NAPIT Assessor visits. Resolving technical issues between client and contractor. Advice on how to establish the extent and limitations for undertaking Electrical Installation Condition reports.
- Surge protection (overvoltage) requirements for buildings. This service would include the provision of surge protective devices, type and position, within buildings.
- Assisting with the developments of a company’s safe working policies and statements. This service would include the identification of responsibilities for Competent Persons and Approved (Authorised) Persons and their roles within the company.
- IT Data centres and suites electrical installation requirements. In particular their earthing requirements for the installation of equipment having high protective conductor currents.
- Earthing systems and Earthing and Bonding Requirements. Advice can be provided on what constitutes an exposed conductive part or extraneous conductive part, often causing misunderstandings between client expectations and contractors actual installations.
- Inspection and testing and form filling. Advice can be provided on how to conduct a particular test, what Certificate or Report is required and confirmation that the document has been compiled correctly before issue to the client.
- Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power supply systems. Advice can be provided on electrical design requirements and performance for a given installation and location (orientation and angle of roof etc).
- Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installations. Advice can be provided on how a charging point may be installed to fully comply with the IET Regulations 18th edition and the IET Code of Practice for such installations, including TT requirements, risk assessments and notification requirements.
